MEN HEALTH: Comprehensive Living Nuggets

Men often skip medical visits & ignore odd symptoms. Maybe that’s why women live longer. But don’t letathy risk your health.

Make sure to go to yearly doctor checkups. These visits let you keep tabs on weight, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. High levels are big heart disease risks. Your doctor can suggest lifestyle tweaks, medications, or other treatments for these risks.

 Get Moving

Heart disease is men’s top killer in the U.S. Regular physical activity really cuts heart disease risk and boosts both physical & mental well-being.

Aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise each week—spread out into five 30-minute sessions ideally. Activities like walking, jogging, swimming, and playing sports (like basketball and tennis) count.

Also, squeeze in two muscle-strengthening exercises a week. Weightlifting, rock climbing, and yoga are great for building muscles.

 Eat Natural Foods

Packaged and processed foods are full of sugar, salt, unhealthy fats & artificial additives. Cut back on these & focus on:

* Fresh fruits and veggies

* Whole grains (like brown rice and whole-grain bread)

* Fiber-rich foods such as beans and leafy greens

* Lean meats and poultry like skinless chicken breast

* Fish like salmon

While grocery shopping, stick to the store’s edges where the freshest items are usually located instead of those middle aisles with processed foods.

Maintain a Healthy Waistline

A waist over 40 inches? That’s a red flag! The National Heart, Lung & Blood Institute says it ups risks of obesity-related illnesses like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.

To lose belly fat? Most men need to eat fewer calories & exercise more. Talk to your doctor for a safe weight-loss plan.

 Ditch Bad Habits

Smoking is super harmful—and secondhand smoke is bad too. The CDC states about 7,300 nonsmoking Americans die yearly from lung cancer due to secondhand smoke. Smoking/secondhand smoke can cause COPD, emphysema, heart disease & different cancers.

Other bad habits include heavy drinking and drug use. Men should limit alcohol to no more than two drinks a day. like cocaine can cause heart attacks/strokes; injected drugs bring serious infections & skin issues; anabolic steroids used for muscle gain may lead to sterility, heart problems & skin conditions.

If you drink too much or use drugs, your doctor can develop a quitting plan that might include medication or therapy.

 Get Your Vitamins

Many folks can get needed vitamins/minerals through diet alone. Eating a variety of nutritious foods (like fresh fruits/veg) gives fiber/antioxidants that help your heart too.

Some might need daily multivitamins or other supplements though. Chat with your doctor about whether adding stuff like fish oil capsules with omega-3s or vitamin D3 would benefit you while being aware of potential risks.

Protect Your Skin

Melanoma—deadly skin cancer—is more common in men over 50 especially Caucasians To lower the risk? Avoid UV rays by:

* Seeking shade

* Wearing protective clothes

* Using sunscreen SPF 30+

* Reapplying every two hours (or after swimming/sweating)

Skip tanning beds too—they also have harmful UV rays Perform monthly self-checks for new/unusual changes then see a dermatologist annually for full-body checks

 Get Your Prostate Checked

Prostate cancer is America’s second most common male cancer after skin cancer Symptoms such as trouble urinating pain/blood indicate prostate issues Schedule an appointment with your doc who might recommend tests/exams.
